Reviews of the "Water for Elephants" Trailer

We already know what we think of this its gonna be an Epic movie that is :) check out the reviews of some good and some *coughs* jashdjsah *coughs* critics

Zap2it
Whether you’re a Twihard with a life-sized Edward Cullen cut-out in your bedroom watching you sleep, or all things “Twilight” make you roll your eyes and stomp your feet, “Water for Elephants” will probably sway you over to Team Rob Pattinson pretty quick.
In the brand new trailer, Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon sparkle as Jacob (yeah, yeah, have a laugh) and Marlena, a vet and a performer traveling with the circus in the early 20th century. Their love story, told in flashbacks by Jacob at age 93 (Hal Holbrook), is complicated by her husband August (Christoph Waltz).
We’re already a little bit in love with the movie, just from the magical, cinematic feel of the trailer. The colors and the music are delightful, and we’re already looking forward to the performances. “Water for Elephants” is set for release on April 15, 2011. Will you be in line at the theater on opening night?

From the looks of this first trailer, August is a charming but violent guy who ultimately decides that the smoldering vampire lost soul who obviously has bedroom eyes for his wife needs to go.
Hal Holbrook plays the elderly present-day Jacob (look K.Stew, it’s your future!), so those who didn’t read the book can assume he at least makes it out of the love triangle—and “the most famous circus disaster of all time”—alive.
Water for Elephants is awash in period detail, close-ups of Rob’s pretty eyes and Reese’s angelic skin, Big Top razzle-dazzle and, unavoidably, plenty of elephant dung.
But only by seeing the movie, in theaters April 15, will we know whether the PattinSpoon combination soars or if the actors really stepped in it.
Getthebigpicture
The two minute trailer displays the characteristics of a beautiful, well made film with a deep story line delivered by Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson.
Francis Lawrence will direct the film and release the film on April 15th, 2011. Unfortunately, these type of films lack mass appeal (sorry, no superheros or special effects or 3D here), but I’m hoping that those who read the book will watch it, and Robert Pattison’s Twilight fans will follow suit. But don’t hold your breath because I hate to say this, but the trailer is a bit boring for my taste.

Moviehole
Flashpoint Entertainment has loosened their grip on “Water for Elephants”, the next film for “Twilight” fave Robert Pattinson, by releasing the first official trailer.
I’ve read the script, and it’s very, very good – this could very well be the film that sees all of Mr Pattinson’s cynics swallowing their tongues from here on because there’s a great character here and looks like he really brings it (if the trailer is anything to go by).
Rom-Com Queen Reese Witherspoon (“Walk the Line”), Christoph Waltz (“The Green Hornet”), veteran actor Hal Holbrook (“Into the Wild”) and also James Frain from “TRON Legacy” star.

Sky Movies
Twilight: Breaking Dawn is a while away yet, but fans of Robert Pattinson can still get their much-needed R-Patz fixes with the arrival of his next movie.
Water For Elephants features Pattinson as Jacob Jankowski, a circus ringleader in Depression-era America.

Admittedly, there are precious few vampires, and the love story isn’t quite as evident as Pattinson’s usual roles. And we’re not sure if we want to root for a movie that has a message like “if you can force an elephant to stand on one leg, you can succeed in life”. But we’ll reserve judgment until the film’s release in April 2011.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, and starring Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line), Robert Pattinson (currently filming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn), and Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), Water for Elephants now has its — really great-looking — trailer available for online viewing.

Also in the Water for Elephants cast: Academy Award nominee Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild), James Frain, Paul Schneider, and Dan Lauria. Apparently, Witherspoon is the film’s only female performer with a more than a few seconds of screen time.

WeGotthiscovered
Water for Elephants is the new film from Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend). Based on the novel by Sara Gruen, the film stars Christoph Waltz, Reese Witherspoon, Hal Holbrook and Robert ‘Twilight‘ Pattinson. I’ll be honest, this one wasn’t really on my radar. Now that I’ve seen the trailer though, it does look like it has potential. We have two fantastic actors in the form of Waltz and Holbrook, and if you’ve seen Remember Me, you’ll know that Pattinson can act when given a good script. I’ve never been a big fan of Reese but she’ll do. Overall though, I was fairly impressed with the trailer and I’ll probably check it out when it hits theatres.

Movieline
While the Water For Elephants trailer certainly doesn’t skimp on the elephants, it’s oddly lacking in clowns, lion tamers and all of the other outcasts and oddities that make the circus so fascinating. I suppose that seeing Robert Patinson and Reese Witherspoon hang out with an elephant is almost as interesting, but still, if Hollywood is going to go to the circus, it’d be nice if they went all the way.
But yes, it’s insuppressible romance under the big top between Witherspoon and Pattinson, with the jealous Christoph Waltz doing his damndest to suppress it. An elephant hangs out in the background for most of the movie and sometimes the two leads rest their head on it or pet it. I’m betting they also bring it water, unless that’s a metaphor.
It really is a likable trailer: The production design and cinematography look great, the actors look great; hell, even that elephant looks pretty sharp. And with Sara Gruen’s much-loved best seller as the source material, it initially seems like an an unstoppable package. But, part of the romance of the circus is the dirt and the jagged edges, neither of which are present in this glossed-over trailer. The book supposedly features supporting characters like a dwarf named Kinko and an old man named Camel who can’t move his arms, but I didn’t see them in the trailer. Here’s hoping that they’re in the film because everyone here looks like they could just as easily be in The Great Gastby.

Cinemablend
Water for Elephants has put together a star-studded cast and sent them to the circus. Now the movie has a trailer in which Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, and Christoph Waltz hang out with, well, elephants.
It’s based on an acclaimed bestseller about a veterinary student who falls in love with a married circus performer, in a bygone era where people still cared about circuses. There’s an elephant, and it’s the power of the trunk that brings them all together. The trailer starts by promising to show us the greatest circus disaster of all time, which is kind of like promising to show everyone the worst marathon accident ever, or the worst volleyball accident ever… or just pick something no one outside of the people who participate in it really cares about. But I’m probably being too harsh. The trailer is quiet and classy and worth a look.

Cinemastage
I haven’t read Sara Gruen‘s number one bestseller, the basis for Francis Lawrence‘s (I Am Legend, Constantine) next film, but I’ve heard great things. I thought I Am Legend was pretty poor, so it is good to see Lawrence change his style up. The trailer makes it seem like an awards season film, so the spring date is a bit odd. The real test will see if Pattinson has any acting ability outside of The Twilight Saga, as he began to prove in Remember Me. The drama stars Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson, and Christoph Waltz.

Latino Review
The trailer for the anticipated Francis Lawrence film “Water for Elephants” gracefully makes it’s way onto the Internet this evening. All of the Robert Pattinson fans must be excited for this, but the picture is looking pretty good from the trailer alone. Give the trailer a try, after all it has Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz as part of the main cast. How can that not perk up your interest?

Hey you guys
More Robert Pattinson for you all today, and this is our first real look at his leading role in Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of Sara Gruen’s novel Water for Elephants via Apple.
Literally running away to join the circus Pattinson finds himself drawn to life on the road and then into the middle of a marriage at the heart of the circus between Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz.
I wasn’t sure about this one before today but there’s a Tim Burtonesque touch to this trailer, I’m thinking specifically of Big Fish, and I’m a fan of the visuals on show, and Christoph Waltz? Come on, this is an easy one to like.

The Marshall Town
Based on the award-winning book by Sara Gruen, Water for Elephants is the big screen adaptation of the period novel.

Looks to be an impressive collection of beautiful imagery, sound, and expression. The kind of film you take your date to and the kind of the film that wins awards.

Obsessed with Film
Everyone expected Francis Lawrence’s big screen version of Sara Gruen’s bestelling novel Water For Elephants to be a summer blockbuster, probably because Lawrence is the helmer of big budget horror/actioners I Am Legend and Constantine – but Flashpoint Entertainment have released the trailer today and it’s much more a schmaltzy, period romantic drama.
It’s a massive change of pace for Lawrence and also a platform for lead Robert Pattinson to show us that he could have a career outside of those Twilight movies.

Of course you will recognise Nick Cave’s score from The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford which is temped for the trailer and it’s fitting because Lawrence utilises the same slow-mo techniques as Andrew Dominik did to heighten the haunting mystique of the period, and it works.
I’m expecting a lot from Waltz on this one, mainly because he gave up the Sigmund Freud role in David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method to make this movie, and apart from the paycheck I want to see what drew him to it.

Fix66
I have to admit that this looks pretty good and much better than I anticipated. I know the story is based on a popular book, so hopefully fans won’t be too disappointed by the film version. Robert Pattinson may just be able to break out of the TWILIGHT typecasting yet. This film doesn’t look like he’s brooding over any girl at all, which quite frankly is nice to see. Maybe this film combined with his role in BEL AMI will set him up for more post vampire films. Keep your fingers crossed ladies.

Reel Empire
Robert Pattinson in first Water For Elephants trailer. The first trailer for “Water For Elephants” was released online early this morning (or late last night depending on your location). The film stars “Twilight” superstar Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz. Waltz is best known for his role as the unmerciful villain from Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds.”

You can read on to check out the first trailer for the film and be sure to let us know what you think. I’m actually looking forward to this. The title didn’t make this film very appealing when it came to light last year. After the trailer, however, I can certainly say that I’m looking forward to the movie.

Washington Post
A sneak peek at “Water for Elephants,” the film adaptation of Sara Gruen’s book club favorite about a Big Top love triangle and a major circus disaster, is now online. And if the clip is any indication, the movie will at least look gorgeous.
Featuring grand, hazy-with-nostalgia visuals and shots of Reese Witherspoon looking every inch the old movie star, it’s a feast for the eyes. Of course, a number of people will think said feast is really all about Robert Pattinson, who definitely comes across (appropriately) as less broody and Edward Cullen-ish here.
Me? I was more focused on an enraged Christoph Waltz and the wonderful Hal Holbrook. Oh, and the elephant, who is clearly on track to win an Oscar in early 2012. Have a look.

NY Magazine
In the film adaptation of Sara Gruen’s book-club favorite Water for Elephants, Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson spend a lot of time rubbing up against elephants, and a little bit of time rubbing up against each other. The fictional story of the “greatest circus disaster of all time,” it’s framed as a cozy flashback (think League of Their Own, Titanic, Fried Green Tomatoes), with an old timer remembering to way back when he looked like Robert Pattinson and was the new guy at the circus. In those days, he fell in love with the beautiful lady (Witherspoon) who did the surprisingly sensual elephant act (seriously, check Reese laying out on Dumbo), and the two of them stroked elephant trunks (not euphemistically!) while avoiding her mean, horrible ringmaster boyfriend (Christoph Waltz). Based on the evidence, it’s hard to tell if this is the movie that will prove Pattinson can act when not playing Edward Cullen, or if he and Witherspoon have any chemistry. (We’re dubious: Witherspoon’s persona is nothing if not adult. She seems like she’d be way too grown for him if they were the same age, and she’s actually a decade older.) Certainly, though, this will be the movie that attempts to make elephants sexy.

Films Shaft
My word they are spoiling R. Pattz fans this week, aren’t they? Not to be out done by himself with Bel Ami production stills the world has now been treated to the Water For Elephants trailer. Alongside this year’s Remember Me it looks very much like Robert Pattinson wants to get away from Edward Cullen and the Twilight universe and stake his claim as a proper actor. Will the likes of Bel Ami and Water For Elephants make it so?
Very much like Daniel Radcliffe R. Pattz was given the keys to the pop cult kingdom and for certain loons they’ll always be Harry Potter and Edward Cullen. Is it a tragedy for them? Well they’ve certainly got to work hard at their game. I thought Pattinson’s performance in Remember Me was pretty good if you like James Dean-style sulking and angst.
Anyway, check out this new trailer. It looks rather good. I Am Legend helmer Francis Lawrence directs.

Robert Pattinson Drops Teen Vampire Acting In ‘Water For Elephants’
The theatrical trailer for the movie was released Wednesday night. Glimpses of the circus movie reveal the film is absolutely visually aesthetic. Reese Witherspoon is the star of the traveling circus, set during The Great Depression.
Robert Pattinson’s character, Jacob Jankowski, is the center lead of the story. A 93-year-old nursing home bound Jankowski re-tells his adventures in a traveling circus called The Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on earth. From the trailer, Pattinson could very well give his most spectacular show.

Inside Movies
Robert Pattinson looks like a man in the adaptation of Sara Gruen’s best-seller Water for Elephants, acting opposite Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon (the beautiful performer his character, a veterinary student in charge of caring for a traveling circus’ animals, falls for during the Depression) and Christoph Waltz (Witherspoon’s husband, the troupe’s animal trainer). Director Francis Lawrence seems to be channeling Tim Burton, and it works. The music lures you in, as does the always affecting Hal Holbrook, who plays Pattinson’s aged character recalling the story of “the most famous circus disaster of all time.” The finest compliment you can give a trailer for an adaptation is that it makes you want to read the book. This one does it for me. You?
